My Go to Running App

Monday, August 31, 2015

Hey everyone,

Today I have a post I think you will really enjoy, especially if you're a fitness lover. It's about an up and coming app called Heat Running. This isn't your normal running app that tracks your distance. Before I get into the details, I want to share with you the story of Arya Farzin, the co-founder of the app.

I had the pleasure of speaking to Arya personally and listen to him share his story with me. Basically, he was over weight all of his life and he decided to take a stand and actually do something about it. At his highest weight, he managed to switch his environment and habits in order to accomplish his goal of being a healthier person. However, just losing his own weight wasn't enough for him. He yearned for more, to help people who were in the position he was too. He ended up developing an app called Heat Running.

If you're like me, a college student with a part time job and you don't have a gym membership for whatever the reason may be, you MUST check out this app. Now to get into all the juicy details. This app, I believe is unlike any other fitness app that I've come across. It makes running a better experience because you're not running by yourself. Basically, the technology that they use, can have you "racing" someone from across the country or across the world. What's great about this, is that you don't have to wait for someone else to join the "race" in order to participate. The app collects everyone's data from whatever length race they want to do, and it matches your time frame according to people with almost the same general time frame. Meaning that, if you're running a one mile race, the app will collect the speed in which you run it, therefore matching you with other "runners" who are in the time frame for a friendly competition. What's cool is that the app also keeps the data from your races and you can do the races to compete with your own best score! What I also found very interesting about the app, is that there is kind of like 3 different levels. When you first choose a race, you can choose to run it "normally" or either "push yourself" or "relax" a bit. I assume thats meaning the time frame in which you are running, therefore it will be easy to match you up with similar people.

After gaining weight myself, I tried working out at the gym and working out at home. Both didn't work for me because I never felt fully comfortable. I can take advantage of the gym on my campus, so I don't have to worry about finding a place to lift, if I choose to do so. However, running was something I always wanted to get into. I love the whole idea behind this app because it's like people coming from all over can race you, without actually having to be there with you. It's kind of like you're getting the opportunity to run and workout with other people, instead they aren't actually in person with you. So it brings the fun of competition without having to actually compete in person. I love the idea that their system matches you up with people who run around the same time frame as you as well.  This app is currently FREE to download, just search "Heat Running" and you will find the app. Don't forget to check out their website here too.
